That new version of Ark has disabled crossplay for Windows 10 users because you’re a big old bunch of cheaters-

Note: Crossplay has been disabled for Windows 10 users, not all PC players. This article has been updated to reflect that.

Studio Wildcard has yoinked PvP crossplay for Windows 10 users of Ark: Survival Ascended, its recently released remaster of Ark: Survival Evolved. The reason is that a whole lot of gamers on Windows 10 have been put on the naughty list for cheating, with hacks letting them do everything from move like The Flash to blowing away console players through walls.

The game’s players have been in open revolt about this since the November 21 launch, and Studio Wildcard says it made the decision to “temporarily disable the Windows client” while it works to “implement robust anti-cheat measures.” Ark: Survival Ascended uses the popular anti-c…

The Steam subreddit has suddenly become all about actual steam and steam trains-

The Steam subreddit has long been one of my go-to checks of a morning, for the simple reason that the crowd there really, really care about what’s going on with Valve’s omnipresent PC gaming platform. As one should, of course! It’s a community that pores over small changes and is constantly coming up with potential improvements, complaints, and Gabe Newell memes, and honestly I kinda admire anyone who thinks this much about a gaming client.

Check out the Steam subreddit today, however, and you will find no detailed arguments about how achievements are displayed or chart discussions. Instead you will find a whole bunch of enthusiasm for and posts about steam. You know, a substance containing water in the gas phase that has a million different applications, the harnessing of which i…

This Black Friday gaming monitor deal is the cheapest we’ve ever seen for a 32-inch 4K 144Hz IPS at just $349-

32 inches, 4K native res, IPS panel tech and 144Hz refresh. It’s what we all want, right? It’s certainly a checkbox list a lot of gamers aspire to. And now it’s possible for just $349.99 thanks to a Black Friday Acer deal, the lowest price we’ve ever seen for that combination of specifications (use Promo Code: BFCY2Z739 at NewEgg or hit the checkbox on Amazon for the right price).

The gaming monitor in question is the Acer Nitro XV322QK. Inevitably, it’s a slightly older model. But it absolutely doesn’t skimp on specs.

The most important aspect is that IPS panel tech. We’ve seen several 32-inch 4K 144Hz gaming monitors dip under $400 before. But they’ve all had VA panels with suspect pixel response.

This Acer beauty is the real IPS deal. Not only…

Item description reveals Starfield as a dark future without Labrador retrievers-

Science fiction is a genre that loves to imagine fun, new vectors for human misery. Maybe we’ll end up in a future where alien embryos might erupt from our chest cavities. Maybe an evil sorcerer with a big space gun will start blowing up planets. If Warhammer 40,000 is any metric, we’ve got about 39 millennia before there is literally only war. And yet, somehow, Bethesda has created a future even more terrible: In Starfield, humanity’s lost a lot of its very good boys.

The reporting comes courtesy of novelty Twitter account Can You Pet the Dog, which tweeted a screenshot of Starfield’s item description for the Chocolate Labs food consumable. “Centauri Mills’ chocolate, shaped like an extinct canine called a Labrador Retriever,” the description says. It also notes that the consuma…

Warframe’s upcoming 1999 expansion adds a romance system, and it’s all thanks to Baldur’s Gate 3

Warframe’s next major story update, the 1999 expansion, will introduce plenty of new features to the mix, like ’90s boy bands and instant messenger clients. However, one thing that definitely wasn’t on my bingo card is a romance system that could end with a New Year’s kiss from any of the Hex, a new syndicate made up of Protoframes.

“[I] always wanted to put some type of romance system into Warframe,” creative director Rebecca Ford says during an interview with GamesRadar. “[But] there was never an appropriate scenario to do it.”

It took 11 years for the romance system to be added to Warframe, and it seems like one of the main reasons for it being greenlit was Baldur’s Gate 3’s success: “I think two things really gave us the courage to proceed,” Ford says. “Of course, the …

We’ve found an RTX 4080 Super at its $1,000 MSRP, and at this price it’s probably the best way of scoring one right now-

Graphics card pricing is still a huge point of contention for many PC gamers. While we’re long past the pandemic shortages and the accompanying crypto boom that drove the prices sky-high in the first place, we’re still regularly seeing many GPUs selling for way above their MSRP, particularly the high-end Nvidia cards like the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090.

However, we’ve spotted this blazingly fast Zotac Super Trinity Black Edition RTX 4080 Super for its actual suggested retail price of $1,000 at Amazon, and given the state of the market right now that makes it a deal worth shouting about.

Yep, that’s genuinely a good price for such a powerful card as things stand, and while $1,000 is hardly what you’d call cheap you do get an extremely high-performance GPU for all that cash.&…

UK police begin first-ever investigation into sexual assault in the metaverse-

UK police are investigating the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl in a VR metaverse, in what seems like the first criminal investigation of its kind. The chair of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, Donna Jones, told the BBC that the complaint was made in 2023 and the inquiry is ongoing.

The news was first reported by the Daily Mail, which says the victim is a girl under the age of 16. The girl was using a headset when she was allegedly assaulted by multiple strangers, who approached her avatar and began touching it with their own avatars. The original report does not name the platform involved as Meta’s Horizon Worlds, though it does include a statement from Meta:

“The kind of behaviour described has no place on our platform, which is why…

Why Counter-Strike players think Valve is about to announce ‘Counter-Strike 2’-

A perennial rumour in  the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive ecosystem has been the theory that the now 10-year-old FPS will be ported to Valve’s current in-house engine, Source 2. This past week, the speculation and whispers have gone into overdrive, with many convinced that a ‘new’ version of perhaps the iconic PC game is on the way.

CS:GO as it stands was made with Valve’s older Source engine. What an upgrade to Source 2 would actually look like is the subject of some debate, with some starry-eyed about the prospect of a rebuilt game that follows in the longer history of Counter-Strike being re-released in new forms, while others are more downbeat and expect any eventual Source 2 version to be ‘only’ a minor visual upgrade, possibly with the official 128-tick serve…
